ack i don't update this thing enough because it's such a pain in the ass to link my pictures so they fit onto the blog without getting cut off.

anyway, on with the show!

i'm determined to learn how to draw hands, here is some of my practice:

this is as far as this one goes - i'm excited to try again!

progress:

lots o' stuff!

from my sketchbook, based on a stock photo on corbis.com :

and here is some recent stuff from yesterday's Dr. Sketchy featuring the lovely model Coco Le Creme of Skin Tight Outta Sight burlesque fame:

these don't look like her, but i still like them, i kind of went with the face that was "appearing" as i drew - artistic license, ok?:

them boobs have a mind of their own!!

i passed by a karate demonstration a few months ago and asked them if i could keep the pieces of broken board after they'd finished, ya know, breaking them over their heads and stuff. so i took home a bunch of these little pieces of wood. i figure they're good for studies. here is the first one.

i scanned it, but my scanner doesn't pick up yellow very well:

the colours look more like this:

back from london! only a few drawings to show for it.

this portrait really captures my friend Alex for me, i think i did a good job of catching her smile and far-away dreamy look. what is she thinking about? something dubious, no doubt. drawn when we were sitting in the Tate Britain after strolling around the british drawing exhibit. we saw rossetti and sargent drawings! probably why she looks so happy.

drawn the same day back at the hotel room. i didn't quite catch her whimsicalness here. sometimes i think i prefer to draw people when they're talking rather than posing, its easier to catch their personalities. she was reading a book. well, trying to, it can be hard to read when someones drawing you!

i know the eye on the right is a little off *wince*. i did map out her face before i started drawing but i started moving it while i was working on it and i didn't notice until it was too late.

this drawn the next night, me in the hotel bed looking at a mirror while Walk the Line played on our hotel tv. i look grumpy when i'm concentrating but i really wasn't. it's not perfect or anything, but i'm reasonably happy with it. i'm trying to tackle more challenging angles.
